REB SOP 013 - Anthropometric Measurements This document describes the specific procedures that are to be followed by researchers at the HNRU during execution of the following:
This document describes the SOP to be used for anthropometric measurements executed on adults (i.e. participants greater than 18 years of age). |
human participants | procedure |
REB SOP 014 - Blood Sample Procurement by Venipuncture This document describes the specific procedures that are to be followed by researchers at the HNRU during execution of the following:
This document describes the standard procedures to be used for blood sample procurement by venipuncture executed on adults (i.e. participants greater than 18 years of age). |
human participants | procedure |
REB SOP 015 - BOD POD™ The BOD POD™ uses the displacement of air inside the chamber to determine body volume. From these measurements, whole-body density is determined and body fat and lean mass (muscle) are calculated. |
human participants | procedure |
REB SOP 016 - Recording Ultrasound Images in Human Subjects Ultrasound imaging is a technique that can be used to monitor the structure, position and deformation of biological tissues in real time. These images/recordings can then be captured and analyzed off-line. |
human participants | procedure |
REB SOP 017 - Standard Measures of Arousal Outlines the procedures for measuring physiological arousal. Physiological arousal can occur from a variety of circumstances, whether the event that causes them is physical (ie. exertion such as exercise) or mental (ie. being frightened). The company iworx manufactures several instruments designed to measure such arousal responses. |

REB SOP 018 - Stimulating The Cortex In Humans Using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an experimental technique used to stimulate structures in the human brain including the cerebral cortex, the cerebellum and the brainstem. Stimulation is non-invasive and performed in awake participants. Includes "Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Information" and "Participant Questionnaire for TMS Studies" appendices. |

REB SOP 021 - Ingestible Core Body Temperature Sensor Provides guidance on the use of the CorTemp core body temperature monitoring system. Includes: Appendix 1, Appendix 2, Appendix 3 |

REB SOP 022 - Intravenous Catheter Insertion and Sampling by a Medically Trained Technician/Phlebotomist This document describes the standard procedures required to perform intravenous catheter insertions and intravenous sampling by trained technicians/ phlebotomists. This SOP is only a supplement to regular training; technicians/ phlebotomists need to have hands-on training and sufficient experience before performing these procedures with study participants. These procedures are specific to the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences (HHNS) and should only be used by approved and trained HHNS phlebotomists. |

REB SOP 023 - Recording Muscle Activity in Human Subjects using Indwelling Electromyography To establish safe procedures for the recording of electrical signals in muscle tissue using an indwelling electrode. Includes Guelph General Hospital letter regarding sterilization. |
human participants | procedure |
REB SOP 024 - Microneurography Microneurography is used to record biological signals from peripheral nerves in awake, human subjects For use by REB members, the Ethics Office, and members of P. Millar’s laboratory. |
