The Red Glow

The picture is a snapshot clicked in between the casting process of Magnesium alloys. It shows an open induction furnace, containing a crucible with Mg, Zn and Ca elements. The furnace reaches upwards of 700 degrees Celsius to melt the Mg samples, and a cover gas of a mixture of Argon and Refrigerant-134A is used to reduce the reactivity of Mg. Theses samples were prepared as reabsorbable bone grafting implants for corrosion and hardness testings.
