Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
The Canada Foundation for Innovation [1] (CFI) funds research infrastructure. This includes equipment, laboratories, and databases and the renovations necessary to house them.
Awards from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) are granted to the university as an institution rather than to an individual faculty member. Interested faculty should discuss their infrastructure requirements with their Associate Dean, Research (ADR) before commencing an application.

John R. Evans Leaders Fund
John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) [2]: "helps institutions attract and retain the very best of today's and tomorrow's researchers."
To ensure that JELF proposals are aligned with college and institutional research priorities, the selection and development of JELF proposals is coordinated by colleges. Contact your ADR to learn more.
Innovation Fund
Innovation Fund (IF) [3]: "supports promising and innovative research or technology development in areas where Canada currently is, or has the potential to be, competitive on the global stage.... by assisting research institutions to capitalize on their achievements and improve their standing in the global research enterprise."
To increase the success rate of CFI-IF applications, the University of Guelph has implemented an internal application development and review process at the pre-submission stage. In selection of proposals, the VPR will be advised by the CFI-IF Advisory Committee.
Major Science Initiatives Fund
Major Science Initiatives Fund (MSI): "contributes to the ongoing operating and maintenance (O&M) needs of national research facilities."
