Description

Ontario Pork has announced a call for proposals for research projects that focus on the Ontario swine industry and meet the overarching research objectives of:

Testing potential improvements to swine industry practices
Assessing greenhouse gas emissions from swine barns

All research projects that align with these objectives will be considered, including, but not limited to, swine health, swine welfare, swine nutrition, swine husbandry, swine reproduction, barn design and management, employee health and safety, meat quality and safety, marketing and consumer trends and environmental and economic sustainability. The highest priority is given to projects that demonstrate scientific merit as well as strong identification of the benefit of project results to Ontario pork producers and an indication of input or support of a project from swine industry members outside of academia.

Maximum Project Value

There is no maximum value for the total project request to Ontario Pork. Consideration should be given to the total amount available in the research fund, which is approximately $500,000 per year, with an average request of $60,000 per project.

In addition, it should be noted that for single or multi-year projects, the total request is deducted from the annual research budget of the year the applicant was granted funding.

Internal Deadline	Friday, January 17, 2025 - 4:30pm	Please submit the full application package, including a completed OR-5 form to research.services@uoguelph.ca [3].
External Deadline	Friday, January 24, 2025 - 4:30pm	Applicant to submit full application through the LRIC Grants Management System [2]. Please note: applicants will be notified in mid-March of the full application results.
