Mitacs has partnered with the the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) and Vale Brazil to support Brazilian postdoctoral fellows to undertake research fellowships at Canadian institutions. 

The Mitacs Globalink Early Career Fellowship – Brazil is an exciting new competitive initiative that provides the opportunity for Brazilian postdoctoral fellows to undertake 12-month research fellowships at Canadian institutions.

The fellowship supports research in:    

  • Biodiversity and conservation; climate science, environmental science; sustainable development
  • Coal technology
  • Engineering; environmental engineering; minerals processing and metallurgical engineering; mining engineering
  • Geology; geomechanics; geophysics; hydrogeology;  marine geosciences
  • GIS and remote sensing
  • Renewable energies
  • Smart grids

Eligibility

Be a Brazilian citizen or have a permanent visa in Brazil. Other requirements (see website below). Supervisors must hold a faculty position and be eligible to supervise graduate students and hold Tri-Council funding.

Funding Availability

$10,000 CAD in funding as a stipend to the postdoctoral fellow and will be a research grant to the host Canadian academic supervisor.  Vale through CNPq will provide postdoctoral fellows $31,920 (CAD) provided in monthly instalments of $2,660 and deposited in the fellows bank account. 

Project Duration

12 months. Project can begin as early as September and as late as January 15, 2017.  

Special Notes

Travel to the destination prior to the approval of the award is not permitted and Mitacs, CNPq and Vale are not responsible for any costs incurred before the application is approved. Travel may not be initiated until Mitacs has received all paperwork including the International Pre-departure form and Mitacs code of conduct.

Applicant submits a signed OR-5 form (supervisor) along with the complete application (including signature page signed by intern and host supervisor, and student CV, supervisors CV, letters of acceptance/support, letters of recommendation, identified scientific areas of knowledge to: Research.Services@uoguelph.ca

External Deadline

Applicant submits complete application via the Science without Borders application (see link below).

How to Apply

Graduate students who have an identified research project and a host supervisor at one of the eligible seven IITs listed above must submit a complete application directly to Mitacs. The International pre-departure Form and Mitacs Student Code of Conduct and an Ethics form can be submitted after the submission of the application; however, funds will not be released until Mitacs receives these forms.
