Description

The Plum Island Animal Disease Centre is transitioning to the National Bio- and Agrodefense Facility (NBAF).  The goal of the NBAF Transition Research Project is to solicit and fund proposals to further efforts to combat new threats and eradicate existing threats by providing critical knowledge; developing and testing in the field new surveillance; screening and diagnostic tools; and exploring novel approaches to vaccination against emerging, zoonotic and transboundary animal diseases.  APHIS High Consequence Foreign Animal Diseases and Pests, along with significant new emerging diseases, are the focus of this call.  The APHIS list can be found here:  http://www.aphis.usda.gov/publications/animal_health/2013/fs_hc_diseases.pdf

Five topic areas have been identified as key areas for collaboration.  Proposals should address at least one of the focus areas described below:

  1. Evaluation of control and eradication tools or methods that can be incorporated into strategies to address emerging and transboundary animal diseases;
  2. Novel screening, surveillance, and diagnostic tool development;
  3. Models, tools, or methods to assess epidemiological, social, and economic impacts of next-generation vaccines and countermeasures;
  4. Novel approaches to vaccine platform development for emerging, zoonotic, and transboundary animal diseases;
  5. Research and development fellowships for transboundary animal disease professionals.

Eligibility

Notice of this funding opportunity was just received by the ORS and we are investigating the University’s overall eligibility.
