Description
The successful Cancer Stem Cell Dream Team will focus their research on the role of cancer stem cells and stem cell programs on resistance and treatment failure in cancer, and will include genomic approaches central to their methodology. The Cancer Stem Cell Dream Team will bring together key stakeholders (including researchers, clinicians, industry, nongovernmental organizations and funders) to expedite delivery of research results to clinical practice and improve the outcomes of difficult to treat cancers.

The American Association for Cancer Research International-Canada (AACR International-Canada), on behalf of Stand Up To Cancer Canada (SU2C Canada), and the Cancer Stem Cell Consortium (CSCC) with funding from Genome Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), are launching a Call for Ideas for a SU2C Canada Cancer Stem Cell Dream Team Research funding opportunity.
Eligibility
(see the Program Guidelines for definitions of team roles and other important notes on eligibility):
- The Dream Team Leader (DTL) must be an independent researcher at a Genome Canada/CIHR eligible institution;
- The Dream Team Co-Leader must be an independent researcher at a Genome Canada/CIHR eligible institution (preferably an independent institution from a different regional jurisdiction than the DTL;
- At least four team members (other than the DTL and Co-Leader) must be independent researchers;
- At least one member must be a Young Investigator; and,
- At least one member should be an End-User and one a Patient Engagement Representative.

- $10,600,000 (Genome Canada and CIHR)
- Expected number of grants funding: One (1)
Indirect Costs
There are no indirect costs on the funding provided by Genome Canada or CIHR.
Project Duration
The SU2C Canada Cancer Stem Cell Dream Team will be funded for a 4-year term.
Special Notes
In addition to the $10,600,000 in funding provided by Genome Canada and CIHR, the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) has made available up to $3,000,000 of supplemental funds to support clinical trial activities should the successful proposal include clinical trial activities within the Province of Ontario. Please see “SU2C Canada-OICR Cancer Clinical Trials: Canadian Dream Team Supplementary Funding” document which can be downloaded from proposalCENTRAL.
Use of Funds: The general guidelines of each of the funders must be followed (see Genome Canada and CIHR guidelines).

Only those applicants having successfully passed the LOI stage may submit a full application.
