World Food Prize

Description

The World Food Prize is the foremost international honor recognizing the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world.  It is awarded for a specific, exceptionally significant, individual achievement at any point of food production and/or the distribution chain.

The Prize recognizes contributions in any field involved in the world food supply including, but not limited to: plant, animal and soil science; food science and technology; nutrition; rural development; marketing; food processing and packaging; water and the environment; natural resource conservation; physical infrastructure; transportation, storage and distribution; special or extraordinary feeding programs; social organization and poverty elimination; economics and finance; policy analysis; and public advocacy.

Internal Deadline

If you wish to be considered for VPR nomination, please submit your Expression of Interest (details below)  to stratprg@uoguelph.ca.  

External Deadline

If your nomination will be submitted by a nominator other than the VPR, please submit directly to the sponsor by the external deadline. Please also submit a copy of the full nomination and OR-5 to research.services@uoguelph.ca 

How to Apply

The Vice-President (Research) encourages nominations for this prestigious award, and will serve as nominator for those nominees recommended by the Honours and Awards Advisory Committee. If you wish to nominate a colleague or to be considered for VPR nomination, please submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by the internal deadline.

An Expression of Interest will include:

  • A draft letter (2-3 pages) addressed to the VPR  which outlines how you/your nominee meets the World Food Prize Criteria 
  • A short letter or email from your Associate Dean (Research) or College Research Manager indicating the College's support for the nomination; and 
  • an up-to-date CV (up to 10 pages) for the nominee (and each member of the team, if applicable).

​If your nomination will be submitted by a different nominee, and therefore does not require the Vice-President's endorsement, please submit an OR-5 and complete nomination to research.services@uoguelph.ca by the external deadline.
