As a research-intensive university geared to conducting world-class research, University of Guelph places a premium on sustaining our research and innovation enterprise.  We also place a premium on keeping our research community safe. In keeping with these values, the Omicron variant is requiring us to revisit our guidelines for conducting research during COVID-19.  We will communicate any changes as quickly as we can through Research Alerts, the Research during COVID-19 website and associated documents, and through Associate Deans Research and Graduate Studies.

At this time human participant face-to-face research must now follow the Red (Control) measures outlined in the Fall 2021 Guidelines for Human participant Face-to-Face Research

These measures will be in place until further notice. Please note:

  • With higher transmissibility, the Red (Control) measures have been updated to include greater precautions including the use of KN95 masks and eye protection when there is an elevated risk of transmission that cannot be avoided.
  • Work can continue, but should include the minimum number of people required, considering both researchers and participants. This number should not exceed guidelines for indoor spaces.
  • If RMPs were amended to reduced restrictions following vaccination requirements, these should be reverted to the original RMP.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your Associate Dean Research & Graduate Studies:
