The Research Innovation Office (formerly Catalyst Centre) was recently approached by a Hamilton-based company (inc. 2011) who is interested in engaging the University of Guelph in testing and optimization of a pest management system for greenhouse and field applications.
This software development company provides ongoing support to their global clients by developing innovative and diverse software solutions. They are currently interested in investigating the applicability of identifying plant stages and pests in real-time using image recognition software and artificial intelligence. On this quest, they are searching for a collaborator with expertise in crops and pest management to provide feedback and beta testing of their system for greenhouse and field applications. The system is geared to provide indication of when prophylactics or treatments should be applied. They are interested in looking at various crops, insects or pests, and would like to be able to refine their beta system, which will be available in October, using this data. The immediate need is for greenhouse applications, with field trials possibly occurring at a later date.
